For First Friday this May 1st from 6-9pm, I am showing new artwork at
SHINE in Hampden, located at 1007A w.36th St. ”PAPELES POR MIS OJOS  is a series of collages created from paper
materials mostly collected in Mexico that Emily made in response to
her brief but intense journey there during the Day of the Dead
celebration last year. The series is also inspired by her work
teaching art to Latino students in the Mi Espacio program in East
Baltimore and considering the challenges they face as teenagers who
live lives split between two cultures. Emily C-D hopes to return to
Mexico next year on a Fulbright Fellowship to pursue art, become
fluent in Spanish, and eat a lot of tortillas.”            You can contact Emily at: shout@emilycd.com

Emily’s most recent book These Things Ain’t Gonna Smoke Themselves won the PRISM Award for accurate depiction of drug, alcohol, or tobacco use in a comic book story line. She says “I did not cry, but I did giggle like a damn fool, and I also got to be in the same room with Dolph Lundgren, thus fulfilling a life-long dream. Here is a picture of me looking absolutely psychotic next to the pretty young thing that presented me with the award. Can you tell which one of us had lessons in how not to make yourself look in a picture?”
