The work in this exhibition represents 3 years of the IL Department course The Lab. In this course, students have realized a project of their choice with 25 prototyped samples of their One Good Idea. They also learned how to promote their creative expressions, build a Creative Brief, research fabricating costs and learn if this Good Idea is worth pursuing further. The class motto is Conceive, Articulate, Create, Fabricate & Disseminate!

art_market

Congratulations to the IL students involved in the 2009 MICA Art Market. Our tables were the highest grossing coming in at $11,275.50! By all accounts this was a great experience for the every student who registered to sell. For the first time, one entire class [The Lab] participated as part of the class curriculum. Both Allan Comport and Whitney Sherman, coordinators for IL, were super pleased with how enthusiastic and organized the IL students were during the market’s 4 day run. A belated thanks to all the IL students who not only made great work, but did a fabulous job marketing, merchandising and doing sales! If you didn’t participate in Art Market this year, please ask about it and consider it for next year.

It’s always good to hear the applause, right? Well, here is some for those of you who have contacted Melanie Reim, Education Chair of ICON6/Pasadena/2010.

Here is what she wrote to Whitney Sherman, Chair of the IL Dept and Jaime Zollars, IL faculty and ICON6 Programming Chair: “Just a quickie note to say thank you for continuing to send students my way for ICON - but also that the messages that they are crafting are so articulate and sophisticated - it is a delight to read and to receive them!”

Melanie is also the Chair of the MA in Illustration at FIT and an illustrator in her own right.
